Heating control stuck so heat won’t come out of vents
Upon my surprise turning on my heat a week ago the dash heating controls stopped working. From the looks of it there’s still heat coming out of the heating core on the bottom facing the passenger side (unless that’s just heat from the engine). See attached photo where my finger is, that is how far to the right that control will go now - I obviously don’t want to force it.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.yot...0647a1810.jpeg I re-did the dash late 2020/early 2021 and didn’t have a problem until fall 2022. I should have serviced it when I had the dash all taken apart, but was low on time as it’s my daily driver and now I’m kicking myself. I definitely want to be able to turn my heat through the vents for those times I get cold hands in the winter living in the mountains. Anyone have something similar happen? How did you handle it, would you’ve done anything differently? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks! |
My 99 stopped making heat. Only air coming out was cold. I traced the cable down to the air valve. Turned out when my mechanic did some work the cable popped out of the clamp down at the air valve. It would flex the outer shield of th cable instead of the inner cable. I put it back where it belonged, and it works great now. Now, the outer sheath is held tight by the clamp, and the inner, cable part moves the air valve, as it should.
I also looked at the control cable for the hot water valve on the firewall in the engine compartment. It was JUST barely in it's clamp. I got it locked in nice and tight, so the cable actuates the valve properly. I suggest checking the cable routing. If it's caught up someplace it shouldn't be, it will jam up like that. Also, check that the cable's outer sheath is in the clamps that hold it at the ends. If it's not clamped down properly, the outer sheath will move around, and the inner cable won't move the actuator it should. I don't promise that's the troule, just my experience with the system. Good luck! Pat☺ |
