Blower motor resistor keeps blowing out
After looking on here I came to the conclusion that my blower was only working on one speed (the lowest setting only) because the blower motor resistor was bad. So I replaced it and for about a day all the speeds worked. Then it was back to having just one speed, the high speed. So I replaced it again worked for a day then stopped again and only worked on the 3rd setting. It was good enough to defrost the thing so I gave up for a while. I have no clue as to why it continues to blow the resistor every time I put a new one in. All the fuses are fine, the motor moves well and quiet when it's on, the switch doesn't seem to have any abnormal movement. I searched on here and couldn't find anyone with the repeating problem I am having. 86' 4runner 22re dlx. Any help would be super awesome!!

By new you mean new out of the box??
Perhaps you have a loose connection or corroded
or got a bad one out of the box.
I have replaced a few over the years that died from old age with no problems.
They just get old and brittle from the thermal cycling a good bump and they break

Brand spanking new
I bought both of them brand new right out of the box. I know they get old and brittle but, these were not old and hadn't been running all that long. I imagine if there was a short I would be popping fuses or my fan wouldn't work at all.

So after replacing the blower motor resistor a few times (cheap ass part seems to break often, came broken in the box one time, yay for life time warranties) the fan still didn't work properly. So I replaced the blower motor. Still didn't work. New resistor. Still didn't work. I took the switch out and tested out and all connections seemed fine. The problem? At one point a short must have occurred because part of the plastic on the wire harness for the switch was fried. Parts of melted and broken harness caused the harness not to make a good connection. After clearing out the harness of broken bits I connected back up and success! After 5 years of no properly working fan I almost wept.
