90 Pickup 22RE - No Spark
Hi all, second post on the subject, but I just tried a new ignitor and still no spark. Went through the flow chart for on vehicle spark test inspection from the 95 4Runner manual and everything checked out...
The tests I performed are as follows:
Check connection of ignition coil, ignitor, and distributor connector
Check resistance of the plug wires (brand new wires)
Check power supply to the ignition coil and ignitor (~12.7V)
Check the resistance of ignition coil (within specs)
Check resistance of signal generator (also well within specs)
Check air gap of distributor (within specs)
Check IGT Signal from ECM, skipped this. They say the engine has to be idling to do the test..... I'm going assuming it's not the ECU.
Try another ignitor. <- done.
I know the coils are different in the newer 22REs, maybe there is something else I should be checking that isn't in the 95 service manual?? There is a little black box that plugs into the harness next to the ignitor and mounts at the base of the coil, perhaps that could have something to do with it? (resistor?) ..There was a definite smell coming from that area the first time I tried to start it.
TIA for any help

Im just throwing out some ideas, have you checked the EFI fuse ?, if your truck has a solenoid resistor check that, if its bad your truck won`t start.

Have you fixed the problem by chance? If so, some Insight would help alot!!

It's a little bit hard to get it aligned when you are reinstalling it because the rotor turns as the distributor goes into place, so it's not thaaat hard to do if it's your first time.
It will still try to run, horribly, if it's off by a tooth, leading you to think that it's something else, but it always dies pretty quickly.
Probably not your issue, but if it is, glad you won't be messing with it as long as I did!
