When did they change engines ?.

When was the 3.slow discontinued ?, and what 6 cylinder engine replaced it ?, and is it a better engine as far as not blowing head gaskets and having more power ?.

Im asking because I know nothing about the 6 cylinder engines. Every toyota ive owned so far has had a 22RE in it.

3.0 ran from 1988-1995. Replaced by the 3.4.

Personally never owned one either, but from what I've heard the 3.4 is a lot better than the 3.0.

The 3.4 does not have the same issues with blowing head gaskets and really does have a lot more power. I have owned both engines and hands down the 3.4 is a better motor.

The 3VZ-E does have a flatter torque curve than the 5VZ-FE though. The 5VZ-FE reaches its peak power output, and then power output basically nose-dives WAY before reaching redline rpm. Where the 3VZ-E can keep putting out MUCH closer to its max power at higher rpm(and/or all the way to/through redline).

It looks to me like up near ~6000 rpm, and beyond, that both engines probably make close to the same amount of power in fact(well...closer than you might think anyways). See for yourself.

But what really blows my mind is that somebody could be a member here for going on 6 years, with over 4 thousand posts, and not know anything about the V6 engines.

I actually thought this thread must be intended as a joke. Apparently it's not...:domo:

Of course I've been here quite awhile myself, and I couldn't tell you much about anything but the V6s. And only very little about the 4 cylinders. Though, by the sounds of it, I probably know more about 22R(T)(E)s than the OP does about the VZ engine series.

All the toyotas ive ever owned were 22RE or 22R. Even my friends trucks are 22RE, so I know alot more about them then any other toyota engines. So ive never been around any of the toyota V6 engines, so thats why I know nothing about them.

So its no joke, thats why I asked.

the 3.4 reputation is it is as reliable as the 22r, the 3.0 is not the best toyota motor to say the least.

and you can charge the 3.4 with underdrive pulley and tuning to double the hp of a 3.0
and still go as far as the 3.0 stock. without blowing a gasket.

that makes the 3.4 far superior imo...

Just a reminder that 95.5 - 97--- 3.4 (5VZ-FE) motors had head gasket failures also as James Woods said.
