what kind of oil are you guys running?

Hey, just wondering what every one else was using and whether you like it or not. also wanted to see what you guys thought I should be running in mine.

Its an 87 22re with 230,000 miles. I fully rebuilt it about 1000 miles ago. Right now Im just using cheap napa 5w30.

I use whatever they pump in it when I take it for an oil change at the Toyota dealership.

Rotella T5 10W-30. Semi synthetic diesel rated oil, I bought 6 gallons last year at Wal-Mart for 10.50 a piece.

I don't run my truck very often, and change the oil maybe every 9 months or so. I just put some in my 22r and no complaints. I have to put 14+quarts in my diesel truck, so there's always 5 quarts floating around someplace.

15W40 Rotella conventional FTW. T5 Syn is good too, but I wouldn't use that on an old tired motor, nor a freshly rebuilt motor.

Changing my oil and servicing my new Toyotas at my local Toyota dealership is about building a relationship with them for parts, tech help and building my Toyotas. They do it cheaper and faster than I could anyway and I don't have the hassle.

Ahhh I get it. Can't beat the University of Toyota info on all the newer stuff. Those Tundra skidplates are pretty fun to deal with too, I wouldn't touch one off a rack now that I think about it

I'm going to look into 15w40 Motorcraft, since it comes in 5 quart jugs for around 13 bucks. ConocoPhillips makes it, and it is generally as well regarded in the diesel forums as on par with the others.

I really like the T5 in my other rides, yet agree about not using it in old or very new motors.

I usually run one of the 15W40 universal oils in mine, and use the same in my old VW diesel. Comes in the 4- or 5-qt. jugs, I think I have Rotella in there now. I like that weight range as it does not get terribly cold where I live, so no need for anything thinner and that helps keep the idle oil pressure up in the normal range when the engine is hot.

I usually run Castrol GTX in my 22r, 10W-30 in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter. Got a good price on it, so me and my buddy bought a whole bunch.

I use what ever they pour into it at Jiffy Lube.

I was running full synthetic Royal Purple but the damn stuff ran out around the rear main. Change to dino lube and the leak stopped.

I do run full synthetic in the tranny/t-case though. Dino in the diffs since the lockers don't like anything really slippery.

Care to elaborate on that? How do they act with synthetic?

Oh ok, thanks. I'll have to experiment with that, locker going in this weekend.
