Squeaky doors
 

My doors are starting, OK they are :laugh: very squeaky now when I open them.
I use to use WD40 on them and past vehicles, but I want to try something different this time.

There are a lot of new lubricants out on the market now that contain sillicones, and teflon, etc.

What works the best, and do they all drip aferwards and you have to wipe up the spooge that drips later?

I like the Prolong SPL. Like WD-40 but better. I've used it on house and truck door hinges, squeaky clutch pedal, and majorly rusted exhaust clamps, bumpstops, u-bolt nuts, etc. Great results in all applications, killed the squeaks, broke the stuck bolts free. On the house hinges I wiped the excess right away, no stains on the white latex paint. I'm sure it will work fine for you. Nail it well enough to get the friction surfaces, wipe the rest up. I'm not sure what's in it, probably synthetic light oil of some kind.

You might want to look into using white lithium grease. A couple of years ago my doors were squeaking really bad, and a friend let me borrow his. Haven't had a problem since.

Either that or a silicone spray. We have roll up doors on our rescue truck at the firehouse, and we use it on the tracks for them. It works really well and I might give that a try on mine soon. Maybe I can borrow some from the firehouse ;) . Other than that, I use WD-40. :beaver:

Corey, save your money. Stop by in Maple Valley and I will show u a trick. I tried it on my 93 truck and it stop the noise. I'll be back Thursday to work. That way we can finally meet.:bigok:

I used tri flow and wd40 and they made the squeak worse. I think it needs something thicker, like a grease of some kind.

I have one squeeky door. WD40 is good for a quick fix, but does'nt last...too thin? I think I saw (or dreamed) a spray grease. Gonna ask my friend at the bike shop. I think that's where I saw it. Or maybe a spray wax or something for chains. It's gotta be thick enough to hold up. If I find something I'll post it.

I'll second the white lithium grease....you can get it in a spray can or in a tube. Lasts forever, doesn't run, puts WD40 to shame lubricating wise.

Is there a difference between that and the black grease that comes in tubes, as far as lubing wise and whatnot? :beaver:

CRC was a success!
Best thing is, there were no drips afterwards like you get with WD40.

I even did my oldest son's Integra as he stopped off for the remaining shiskabobs.

That reminds me. Gotta go pull the rice off the stove, and throw them thar shisker's on the fire :bounce:

Corey, I use the same stuff on my Hi-Lift jack.:)

Probably should before the next time I put it up on the roof.

I don't know why I have not got around to buying this stuff before.

That is good to hear. I will have to check it out and see how it works. But I won't know what to do when I don't have to wipe off WD-40 from everything! LOL. Thanks for the info. :beaver:

More than likely, it's probably is pretty much the "white lithium grease" everybody has been talking about and paying premium for.

Has anyone tried the K-Y yet? :hillbill: That's about all that's left to try....:laugh:
