sliders

I heard weld-on sliders are illegal - true or false?
Where can I buy some sliders for a 3rd gen 4Runner - or get some designs?
Wabfab seems nice... what are some other options?

I have searched but soooo many results came back... some help would be great

Never heard they are illegal. if you want to find out check you local laws. But seriously ive never heard of anyone ever being pulled over for side steps/sliders or anything like that. I really would not worry about it.

marlin4x4 has nice weld on ones
google it the cop would have to know a lot about 4x4 s to write you a ticket for that

I'm in the market myself. You can't go wrong with WabFab or Stubbs

All Pro OffRoad got my business twice-the bump out on their design is a quarter panel saver

I believe 4Crawler makes bolt on sliders for 3rd gen 4Runners...just in case they are illegal. But I never heard of them being illegal.

who cares if they are legal or not

beatenyota Aug 24, 2009 04:08 PM

Thanks everyone.
I don't really CARE if they are legal... but I emailed a company / guy that makes them and he said they were. MAYBE (probably?) he was trying to get me to buy his bolt-on ones.

yea dude they aren't illegal that guys just being crazy. i think the ideal length for the sliders is like 65in to 63in... the only problem is you can't really find ones that are the right size online... I did something like Addicted 4runner build... some name like that... hes got a good design... i had a local welder fab a set up for me, should have them installed by saturday.... remember you could always convert bolt ons to weld-ons

On big rigs (semi trucks), welding on the frame is usually illegal (they have heat treated alloy steel frames - welding heat can affect the frame strength).

But on pickups and 4Runners, frames are mild steel and welding on them is fine.

The stubbs welding ones look really nice. Especially the HD-SKO. http://www.stubbswelding.com/
