R150F Questions

So... the new rig I have came with a R150F....

I know nothing about it's history. Probably has around 350k on it.

The previous owner let his roommate operate a chainsaw in the garage while the shifters were off the trans. There is sawdust all over the trans, and it appears to be inside too. Should I flush this in some way? I thought about vacuuming it out, hitting it with some compressed air, then flushing it with trans fluid. Any ideas?

He told me that first gear was hard to shift into... sounds like the Syncros to me... but I'm just not sure if I want to risk throwing the trans in the car, figuring out that there is more wrong with it.. then having to drop it again. How hard is the syncro swap?

I mean, I'm throwing a whole new motor in here. I can easily buy a different transmission, it's tacking on another $1500 or so. Should I work with what I have to see how bad it is, or should I drop a new trans in there?

Should I do anything with the T-case? I don't wheel too hard, so I don't need reduction gears... but should I do anything maintenance wise?

Basically... before I throw this back in the truck, is there anything I should do to it to ensure a bunch more miles?

Thanks all

The shifting hard could be the shifter bushing at the base of the shifter.

I would try to get as much saw dust dust out as you can, then after you get it installed, flush the fluid after a few miles.

No gearing options for that t case. It already has lower gears than thr 4cyl case, but not by much. (2.28 vs 2.57) Change the gear oil and go.
