Panhard bracket: drop or lift?

Which is generally viewed as better dropping the bracket or lifting it. I'm looking at getting so lc rear coils so this would probably be needed.

what is the panhard bracket? anyone have a pic of it?

ldivinag 08-10-2004 02:30 AM

if you are gonna make it youself, LIFT.

otherwise, only all pro HAD one... dont know if they still sell it. everything else is drop...

Praufet 08-10-2004 07:45 AM

all the drop brackets I've seen look like they change the geometry of the bar and give it more room to pivot

Steve Schaefer has a bit of info online - and makes the brackets for resale: http://fastq.com/~sschaefer/store.html#DropBar

Whoops... I should have checked your sig. :( Well, the concept is the same for those that are asking about that angle.

"angle".. heh. I crank me up. :)

weldpro 08-10-2004 01:15 PM

Ask Steve he should be able to make you one!
Richard

Oh, and both will work!

The only 2 places that offer a 2nd Gen drop bracket are Downey and ProComp.

Downey has a 3" and ProComp has a 4". The Downey one is included in a kit that is around $150. The ProComp I'm told is $36.00, but 4", too long.

What I think you "could" do is drill a hole at 2.5" or 3" on the ProComp bracket.

We could also make you a drop bar, but that is $142.00 plus you ship us your bar for the work sonce we don't have 2nd gen cores.

Hey schaefer, when you get your 2nd gen. frame will you be making panhard drop brackets for us?
Thanks

I can't do it from the frame but I could do it from Epic Ed's 2nd Gen durring his (September/October) rear bumper build or from the Cheese's 2nd Gen when I see him in Moab.

It's very possible, 2nd Gen is more likely than 4th at this point.

Praufet 08-12-2004 01:31 AM

yay! schaefer built!

Goldrunner 08-12-2004 03:44 PM

I've been trying to get one from Procomp for 5 weeks now, they still say it will be another 3-4 weeks. There on "backorder".

I'll vote for lifting the axle side. I've bent mine comming down on a rock when I had the 3" drop.

Great! figure out how to do that. In the mean time, we're going to make 2nd Gen drop bars.

100% bolt on and extremely strong. Keep is simple and easy………………

914runner 08-12-2004 06:40 PM

Have you made cheese a drop bar schaefer?
Thanks

Cheese has a Downey, he's set.

Goldrunner 08-12-2004 07:22 PM

Steve, what does the drop bar consist of? depending on whether procomp ever comes through maybe I should just cut my losses and go with the drop bar.

You send us your bar, we cut the ends off and re-sleeve the center with a 2.5" drop.

We send it back, we re-use what you already own to save on the cost.

Bolts into stock bracketry, the bar drops.

i have a 4" superlift drop bracket and i've already broke it.
