objections to using a hitch mounted tire carrier?
Lets hear them, posotive and negative, I like the look and rarely need to do more than open the back window for cargo. (i would be buying/making a fold down one)

I know that the license plate will have to be relocated.

im planning on running 265's for now, so that will still fit under the bottom...

i dont wheel it, occasionally ill hit some mud or some hting off of a dirt road.
the main point, is I really like the way it looks, around here, the 4Runner is popular with the sorority girls, and mine is red on top of that. just trying to make it a little more rugged looking....
call me a poseur, im doin the lift/suspension the right way though.

They tend to wobble around a lot, which can be annnoying. Also be darn sure the hitch can take it - thinner metal of light duty hitches will fatigue faster. And can you lift it off there unassisted when you DO want into the back?

by doing this you will lose the use of the tailgate without lowering the tire. Basically you will be left with either reaching for stuff either by stretching for stuff from the rear seats, or having to reach around the tire all the time, meaning brushing up on it all the time if you keep it up, or have to worry about lifting the thing back into place or the hinge or retaining components failing on you. Dragging stuff donw the highway going mach chicken is a great way to destroy things, if i had a pic of my old bike frame sawn in half id show you. Either way, it'll be a PITA to get anything. If you don't really ever use the trunkspace, don't mind removing or lowering the tire anytime you want to make full use of the back, don't mind the noise, and feel confidant that your hitch can support it then by all means, feel free. Another option would be to get a rear bumper with the swing out tire carrier, but then you start needing some serious coinage.

An expedition-style roof rack with the spare, some shovels, sand ladder and gas cans won't interfere with access and will look waaaay cooler to the chicks....

haha yeah well. ill wheel it a little, already got it stuck pretty good off a ridge...(7ft drop off and the pass front tire went off. 2 wheels off the ground) no locker meant i had to get a tow.
im not quite ready to be paying for body work as well as tuition...
