Manual transmission oil
With the death of the manual I found suitable oil getting harder to get. API GL4/5 MT-1 is available but that's not really suitable oil for synchronised manuals because of the sulphurized EP additives for hypoid gears and not being safe for yellow metal synchronisers.
So two questions... Never had a Toyota transmission apart...do they use brass/bronze synchronizers? (I know that sounds stupid!) If they don't its no problem. I know in GM and Chrysler manuals the bronze synchronizers are corroded by some of these 'wrong' oils. What oil are people using? I used to use Castrol manual transmission oil, not to be confused with their Hypoid C oil, both now seem to be extinct. I asked the dealer what they used and they simply said "we use the same stuff in the axle and transmissions". They really didn't expand much on that. |

Well it looks unanimous, just got to find the stuff closer to home! A place in Calgary has it but that's about a five hour round trip. Thanks.

I have a local atv/dirt bike/sled shop order it for me. Maybe try them if they are somewhat close
