front locker question
i read through the FAQ and a couple other posts but didn't quite see this answered. (obtw here's a search gif that i'll provide you to use on me if i didn't search well enough, haha.)
http://aspen-graphics.com/misc/chairsearch.gif so... with the following setup: 4WD truck ADD unaltered from stock lunchbox locker in front manual hubs then, are these scenarios correct? 1) with ADD not enabled (meaning, truck in 2WD), and with manual hubs on FREE, the front lunchbox locker won't do anything -- shouldn't ratchet, shouldn't lock, and should only freewheel, correct? (axles don't turn... so the locker doesn't see any rotation.) 2) ...but then with manual hubs on LOCK, then engage ADD by shifting into 4-hi, then you're in 4WD and fully locked in front... 3) and if you do not engage ADD, stay in 2WD and put the hubs in lock, then the locker locks and ratchets as normal, right (and of course no power to the wheels)? thanks |
all are correct, but i think differnt on number 3.... If your hubs are lockes, but the add sleve is disengauged...the driver CV spins independant of the pass side, so you should experiance no ratcheting, the only differnce will be the drive shaft spins..where with open and hubs locked the shaft doesnt spin.

ok thanks. i wanted to understand whether it'd be locked or not, with the freewheeling hubs. sounds like with that mod, one is "safe" to drive on pavement with no binding with them on free.

Yeah, with the hubs free and in 2high, nothing moves up front. This also saves on gas, and less wear on front components.
