Is there any why to tell what year a 22r engine is?

Is there a difference in head gaskets between earlie and late engines?

 

Early 22R motors have valve covers that look the same as the 20R. Later 22R valve covers are more squarish. Do a google image search.

I'm curious about the head gaskets myself. I THINK there's a difference, but I have never compared them.
