BudBuilt Skid Plate

Bought a BudBuilt Skid plate off CL for $140. I'll let my pictures do the talking :D heres what I did with it.

By the way - Bud at BudBuilt is a really nice guy. Great customer Service, answered my E-mails and calls everytime. Even though I bought the product used and from a private seller, he sent me all the bolts I needed and 2 stickers to go along with the package for free. Definitely will be ordering a transfer case skid from him later on!

And Here's a picture of the side. Stock springs, no sag! ( with all that weight up front... lol we'll see what it looks like for Pismo when I pack it full )

Haha I tried to get his Budbuilt transfer case skid plate too, but he didn't wanna part with it :(

Its a big improvement over the stock skid plate.

Yeah. I dont recommend installing this by yourself unless you have 2 floor jacks. I've had a stiff neck since the installation. Had to lay underneath the truck with it on top of me, lift it with my body and wiggle the bolts around for 15-20 minutes with the weight of on top of me. ( i was too impatient to wait for help ) but yeah. this thing is heavy, and because of the angle, it feels heavier when putting it on.

you love being on the bottom dont you.......with a heavy thing on top

eric - can never turn down a fatty.

steve - thanks man. I love it, even though getting an oil change done now requires me to pull the skid plate off, which requires me to pull the front bumper off... its a huge hassle now.

Fumoto drain valve:

Get the one with a nipple and stick a hose on it.. Or.. Just cut a decent sized hole out of the skid..

Hey man nice skid. Still trying to save up to get one. I certainly didnt see it on CL lol

BTW did you get the skid plate from a guy in a blue pickup?

kiyobrown Sep 23, 2010 02:15 PM

That thing cleaned up nice. Looks good.

Sucks when you all live in the same area, its like piranhas going after craigslist goods. LOL

MaK92-4RnR Sep 23, 2010 04:17 PM

lmao yes. My skid plate was bought off norcalsvx. he had a blue ext. cab pick up.

steve - how would I go about getting the filter off? heh the drain plug is still visable from the back side... but the only way to get to the 3vz filter is under the truck

xxxtreme22r Sep 23, 2010 04:58 PM

what about going through the fenderwell?

I so got to get me one of those BTW. especially now that 92 Toy kidnapped mine and painted it PINK. lol.

MaK92-4RnR Sep 23, 2010 05:42 PM

it really is an amazing product though. its heavy and hard to move. but when its on, its bullet proof. Im afraid to scratch it... i love opening up the garage to see that purdy piece of steel under my truck :D lmao

Jaino240 Sep 23, 2010 08:57 PM

I see, yeah I was like that skid looks familiar. Oh and btw my buddy just bought norcalsvx's truck. lol

norcalsvx May 7, 2012 07:55 PM

Nice turned out good

MaK92-4RnR May 8, 2012 07:28 AM

haha thanks. glad to see you're back!

StewsRunner May 9, 2013 08:17 AM

MaK- did you have to remove the bumper to remove the skid to change your oil?

Also, I know you had a TJM and i've got an ARB but was there any way of bolting the skid OVER the bumper? It looks like I can with the ARB, maybe. Can anyone confirm that? I emailed Bud regarding it but I figured another answer is never a bad thing.

highonpottery May 9, 2013 09:25 AM

He no longer has that rig. It really depends on how your bumper attaches to that front crossmember. I would assume there is no need to actually remove the bumper itself, but perhaps just unbolt what needs to be and remove the skid. As an alternative to having to take everything off for a simple oil change, look into an oil filter relocation kit and a Fumoto oil drain plug.
