Bent Frame!?!?!?!?
 

So i got in a accident and i believe that i bent my frame for a few reasons. But anyway the accident was not my fault and the other insurence company is covering all of the damages and all that stuff. What i wanna know is does this automaticaly total the car. I think my car is worth around $7,000 or so and there is atleast $2,000 in body work damages and if my car is totaled what happens... do the pay for the worth of my car and i still get to keep my car or what... i'm 19 and new to the accident scene and just am worried they might take my runner and just leave me with a check which i dont want. And how would i straighten the frame if i were to do it myself.

My last experience with totalled vehicle, Is the paid for the value of the car not what we owed. So we had to pay two more payments to clear ourselves of this car. We did not get to keep it, its like they are buying the car from you at book value. At the time I don't know if there is/was any bargaining that can/could of happen. We had a lawyer due to it not being our fualt and wife was 7 months pregnant. Talk about crappen a brick, and it seems the deal was the best she could get but our concernes were more with possible injury to our dauther. Knock on wood all was/is well.

I went to the dealership for a price to have it repaired and they told insurance the car was totalled.

Call you insurance company and ask for advice and express your concerns.

If they total it out i belive you will have the oppurtinity to accept the pay out and buy it back for specified amount if you wish.

Yep, that is what happened to my old VW. It was totaled and I received a check from the insurance co. for the value and bought it back for a small fraction of that amount.

SOMETIMES a messed up frame can be fixed. sometimes it cant. if they do total your vehicle, make sure you dont just accept their first payout offer. some companies will low ball you with an offer, just do some work of your own. what i mean by that is, find comparable vehicles in your area for sale. find as many as you can, because most likely they will be selling more than what you are offered. KBB/NADA are pretty worthless, but a starting point I suppose. You should have the option to buy back if they decide to total it. but dont expect it to be like a couple hundred. it could easily be a couple thousand. im an insurance agent here in CO, so let me know if you have any more questions.

thanks a lot man. my buddy just got his car totaled (wasn't his fault) and he got funded 6,000 for his car and bought it back for 300 so hopefully it will be some of the same. lol well i will deff keep it touch with you so i dont get screwed!!! thanks a lot man.

sure man, glad my knowledge helps somewhere. as far as where you can get it fixed, a shop may do it, but they also might not. if you buy it back, it may be only usable as a trail rig. i'd wait to hear what a shop says. you definitely dont want something that isnt structurally sound.

ya for sure. i just took it for test drive and it still drive as strait as ever... i donno the front is bent for sure but i dont think the bend is even past my radiator. i'll get pics...

lol for sure. back when i was a ricer i had a badass 99 maxima and i got into an accident and i was freaking out that it was toteled and all that was wrong with it was the door needed to be replaced.

we came VERY close to totalling our suburban once. My mom got in a bad accident when a drunk driver (with revoked license) hit her going 65+ through a red light. The front was messed up and all, but lucky he hit on the front passenger side so we only needed a few new body pannels. But the frame was bent something awful, so bad the front passenger tire was over a foot off the ground.

We took it to a frame repair place and the drive it onto this big computer thing that attaches to the frame and they just program the type of car it is and the computer bent each piece back to the origional spec's it was awesome to watch. I think it was the kind of thing that sometimes works, some times does not though. I cannot see how you could bend it back your self and have it still be the same that it was... i just doubt a blow torch and hammer is going to cut it :hillbill:

We did get another 100k out of that car before we sold it and never noticed that it drove any diffrent.
