Anyone ever made an extra capacity welded on diff cover?

I picked up a 93 p/u sas with 85 axles. I’m rebuilding the axles and decided to swap diff covers to the .250” Barnes steel ones.
Instead of slapping it on I was thinking of adding a .5 x 1.0” steel flat bar as a spacer.
Fab it based the octagon cover and weld it all up.

curious if anyone else thinks it would make much difference with the extra fluid.

*i change my axle fluids a couple times a year, but I’m also hard on my rigs. Trying to get the 8” to last til I build a 9” to replace it.

thanks!

Get a 8" pipe cap and dont cut it down.

Unless your submerging your axles frequently, you shouldnt need to change the fluid that often.
