99 4runner rear brake question
I have 99 4x4 4runner and the drivers side rear drum will freeze up when its cold. I have to give it alot of gas for it to brake free so wheel will turn. It only does it over night when its cold out. I have taken it apart and cleaned everything in the rear drum, adjusted the parking brake on it and cleaned and lubed the parking cable, But none of it has worked. Any Idea's Before I have to take the dealer and get bent over.

I had a similar issue. Mine turned out to me an axle seal that was leaking causing the brake shoe to stick.

I thought that also but there was hardly any grease or oil in the drum it was just all brake dust.

check your fluid level in your rear diff

What's actually freezing? Are you putting the parking brake on when you park it for the night and it's not releasing, or is it just after applying your normal brakes and they don't release. If it's your parking brake, then it could be caused by a sticky bellcrank.
Just curious... what did you clean the components with? |
We have not been using the parking brake for a while beacuse thats what I thought it was at first. I cleaned it with brake parts cleaner. What happenes is when you get in and start it up, put it in reverse to back out of the driveway, the drivers rear wheel wont turn it makes a very loud bang when it releases. I am starting to think it may be in the rear end.
