4Runner hood scoops
I have a 1992 4runner and I really like the look of the new 4runners and trucks hood scoops. I wanted to see if any one has found and put one on a 90 to 95 runner. Do you have any pictures and were to get one. I am going to paint my runner soon and I want to get one and fiberglass it into the hood so it looks factor not just stuck on with two sided tape. I seen one a while back in here some were but I can't find it know. Do I have to get a newer hood and cut it out or is there a place to just get the scoop?

Anybody? Anybody?

Don't Do IT!!
Sorry dude but don't you think thats a bit rice for a solid toyota truck? Anyway, just cut a hole in the hood and you can get several JDM scoops that are on the market.

There on the new runners. I think it make it look a little more tough, not ricer. And I want the look of the new runner hood scoops because they look higher quality, not cheap.

I think it looks good, I took one from a wrecked new 4runner and put it on my 88 4runner, I'm sure it would look just as good on an 90-95. And it looks totally stock too, I mean it looks like it belongs there!

That's what I want on my 4runner. So you cut that out of a new hood and then welded it into yours?
|
buy a fiberglass hood with the scoop already integrated in.

Interesting side note / tidbit: I did some heat testing in Phoenix (temp probe at the top of the engine) after making my "scoop" functional and found that it actually worked best allowing heat to escape (helps with heat soak). Also I found that above about 20MPH the airflow must begin to travel over and around the scoop because temps remained steady and even climbed until speeds dropped below 20MPH again (air must enter at this point).
I have a 3rd gen, but I thought I'd mention this in case you plan to make your scoop functional. Oh, I made a trick little block-off plate that I can install when it's raining hard too and in Seattle that's quite often. :) |
If i wanted a scoop, i would,
1. Cut a hole in my old hood for the scoop. 2. Place scoop over hole 3. Bondo! 4. Paint 5. Enjoy! With Bondo anything is possible! |
I bought an oem hood for the 99 4Runner sport edition, cut out inside the cowel, and had it all Line X'd with an embossed Toyota emblem.
It looks good, but like someone said before, when offroad it just kicks the mud and water all over the engine. |

I swear I have seen your 4Runner at the Mill Creek Town Center all the time. If not, there's a replica down there.
