i got 6mpg for a while, but i never had my fuel filler cap on DUH!!

heres what i would do.

fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, check your timing, check for any cel's, tire pressure, clogged catilitic converter, air filter, check your gear ratio's to tire size ( if youve ever messed with your tire size or anything), 02 sensors, air flow meter, and most importantly CLEAN YOUR INTAKE MANIFOLD. the intake manifold is a common problem for toyota 22re's, the got clogged and rob plenty mpg and performance. plus you should try running something through your engine when youre done like seafoam or lucas etc.

shifting at low rpm's will save your gas mileage if your not driving fast. if you shift too low though you could cause youre engine to bog and jerk wich will cause alot of wear and tear on the crankshaft, wich could lead to your crankshaft breaking. ive never seen it happen on a 22re, but it is pretty common on semi's and big diesel engine's.

as for the turbo;s though, im not too sure. and besides the 22rte, ive never seen a turbo on the 22re, and im not sure if its practical/do-able

By shifting at low RPMs, you can lug down your Engine pretty bad, causing more wear and tear like 85gijunk4x4 said. And how much gas is that really saving you?

And adding a turbo. wnt add to MPGs because the only time the turbo is gonna kick in is if you go Pedal to the Metal. Unless of course you had twin turbos and set one for low Rpms and one for High Rpms, but I dnt even think you can twin turbo a 22RE.

I got you all beat. I figure about 10mpg, almost all city driving (I don't use the highway much in the truck). It's actually a bit more because of the bigger tires, and its an auto, and I haven't regeared yet, and I always have ECT on. With all that considered, 10mpg is probably to be expected.

Funny you would say that haha. I was kind of hoping to make it go 100, my friend is going to get a Supra so I was hoping I could ride around with him and at least keep up to him without spending all my money on gas.

Just read another thread on here that said it would cost more to get it faster via twin turbo than just swapping engines. Thanks for all you're help everybody!

LOOOOL.
yeah good luck getting your 100HP engine to go 100mph.
most of us cant break 70 stock, while going downhill, with a tailwind.
a supra will destroy a 22r powered truck.
not only that, but twin turbos definitely arent applicable on anything under 6 cylinders.
if you want to go fast, go get a Vtech honda, turbo it, get a header and exhaust, and have fun.

I kind of need to go somewhat fast, I will be in the Fire Department, and will have to respond to calls. I'll look into other options.

Before I lifted my 86 2wd 22re I was easily able to hit 100. I would easily cruise on the tpike going 80 and with 6 1/2 lift and my new 33's and stock gears, I still have descent pickup in fifth. Also the truck is a factory one ton

I don't think there is a fire truck that can go 100 mph. They hardly go over the speed limit. My guess is if you are not riding out on the truck, you're probably not essential enough to need to break the sound barrier to get to a call.

Driving 100 is irresponsible and stupid. You put yourself and others at risk when you drive like that.
