Winter tuneup questions and ideas
 

Howdy everyone!

I drive a lifted 1989 4Runner. Bought it from South Dakota but It came from New Mexico. This will be my first winter with the truck and I just don't feel its going to be able to take the abuse that I will give it. (love to rip on my trucks in the snow)
SOOOO...
I feel it needs some TLC before the snow falls.
I was thinking U-joints right off the bat but then I was drawing a blank.
My rear u-joint is spraying grease onto the gas tank so i'll be replacing that for sure, but should i just replace all of them?

I'd also like to take the body lift out. I think its a 3" body lift. Now how much work is it to take out? It has a 4" suspension lift and 35" tires. Will my tires rub if I take the body lift out? Heres some pics, i dunno if it helps..

I also would like to replace my shocks. is there a company that makes replacement shocks to fit my lift?

But other than that crap I don't really know what do to, to get my truck winter ready. I NEED YOUR IDEAS YOTATECH!!!

Interesting ideas what they have to do with getting ready for winter is beyond my brain to figure out.

I was thinking more along the lines of a good tune up so it starts easier on those cool below zero mornings.

oil change with a lighter weight oil maybe.

Make sure the Electrical system is working like it should.

New snow blade wipers making sure the washer works like it should .

warm air blows out of the defroster fan motor is working like it should

Those kind of getting ready for winter things .

Check your antifreeze strength

No water is your windshield washer bottle, only real -20F washer fluid

Replace your thermostat to get the best heat.

Yeah......
check tires, check your wires, cap and rotor.
new plugs
Clean up your grounds, at battery and engine block...use a little grease there. Clean up starter connections if they are corroded at all.
Grease up all yer fittings
Antifreeze, as suggested above. Wiper fluid, new blades if needed.
Check your fluid levels (tranny, diffs, tcase....) top up/change if needed, sucks to do when it's freezing out!
Replace air filter
Change out fuel filter
Oil change >> I'd go 10W30, myself. Lighter oil doesn't seem necessary, and actually can make any weeping leaks worse (so they say). Just use what the manual says.

Check out fuel and brake lines. I know, we don't wanna know! But if they're junk and it's freezing out, you'll be bumming when under there fixing them.
Test your heat - know NOW that you have good heat. If not, change thermostat first.
Check hoses for cracks, bulges, excessive softness, cuts where clamps were screwed down....visual on the vacuum lines
New PCV valve.
Look at exhaust hangers so it doesn't drop on you some snowy night.
Go thru emergency tool kit, make sure you got what you need
Check that 4x4 works.

Ok, you're done and ready for winter!
