Question Wheel Size & Tire Question 99 4RNR SR5

Hello all. This is my first post and hopefully my worst. I purchased my first 4Runner Christmas Eve as a present to myself. A 99 SR5 2WD 106K for $7200 out the door.(See Avatar). It came with stock Toyota Alloy Rims and 225/75/R15 Tires without much tread left so I want to replace(about a 1/4 inch) . I tried searching google and this forum for the past hour to no avail so .... My question is as follows.

What is the width of these rims and secondly what is the largest tire I can put on these wheels without rubbing and no lift?

I appreciate the help and any list of the sizes I could use would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here's a link to the autotrader ad from which I purchased the vehicle for more pics.

ok, 285/75R16 is equvilant to a 32.5/11.5R16, approximately. I am running that size tire on my 4Runner with 3" of lift and its stiff rubbs a slight bit. I'd go with 265/70R15, unless you are willing to swap rims out to 16". 265/70R15 is what the stock TRD Tacos were running prior to 2002, then they swapped over to 16" rims retaining the 265/70 tires until 2005 when the body changed. 265/70R16 is what most stock 4Runners were running prior to 2003. You'll have no problem running this, maybe a little indiscrpency in the speedo but not in excess of a few miles at highway speeds.

A 31x10.50 R 15 should fit just fine.

Thanks for the info. I have a followup question..... What would be the difference for me with choosing a 265/70/R15 over a 265/75/R15?

metric sizes are weird. The say 265 is the width and the 70 or 75 is an aspect ratio of the 265 determining height. Its basically a 31/10.5, if ya stay with the 15" rims (which I'd advise for price of tires) there are more standard sizes versus metric

The difference is the 75 tire is a little taller but the 70 tire is a little wider.

BTW, I have the same truck and the truck came w/ 31X10.5x15. This is a 3" increase in tire size from the ones you have now that are approximately 28" tires. This size fit fine with the stock suspension and even looked much beefier than stock.

people missed that he said NO LIFT... he wasnt asking what the largest tire he could run on stock rims was.

so yea 265/70 or 75 / 15 is probably the way to go

I had the same set up for my 95, one time I was lucky to put on 32's which were worth every penny to get that extra inch...They looked so nice compared to the 31's Only rubbed a couple of times on really hard turns. Anyways if I can recommend Costco for tires go there. I had problems with a set of tire the gave me a full refund even with 400 miles on them. Have a great time with the 4runner hope to see you out on the trails!
