What should happen when I pull the EFI fuse?
Hello from Waterworld!! ... sorry England :(
Right I have a 97 Yota Colorado Prado 2.7 Litre petrol (3RZ FE) that is running like a stricken pig at the moment. Starts first time, then dies after 200 yds at the first stop sign, turning over sounds like its flooded?? then fires starts once warmed up runs OK again. I have checked everything I can think off and read a discussion about reseting the Engine management unit. So I pulled the EFI fuse as suggested. Afterwards, the engine was almost impossible to start, lumpy, backfiring slightly, but seemed ok once warmed up, Im begining to suspect the EMU is at fault any of you guys had any experience of this ?? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Dave |
im going to start with spark probs....
any CEL's ? check replace the simple stuff first, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. there are some simple diagnostics for the ignitor, check timming |
Hello Dave,
Try looking at your fuel pump relay, also. |
when you pull the fuse, it should just start sputtering then die. if you try to start it with the fuse out, it will crank, it might start but run real rough (depending on how long the engine ran with the fuse out), but likely it just wont start.

You are probably driving it on the wrong side of the road. Try changing sides and see if that helps.
*Sorry!* I had to get that out of my system ;) In my experience, the onboard computers seldom cause problems like you are describing. Either they are working fine or they don't work at all and the rig won't run at all. What you are describing sounds more like a sensor problem. MAF, etc. |
