Afm is the air flow meter. It's like an old mass air flow sensor. the ones on the Toyota supras were bigger and allowed more air flow compared to the 4runner

if you are planning on taking your stock rig off road a lot? don't... find someone with a completely modded rig who wants to start over, and TRADE! trust me, its probably going to end up being half price
if your interest is building and wasting money like all of us on the forum? then you will need tires first, then spend the rest of your money making sure your rig is reliable. nothing worse than a pretty new bumper on a rig with a thrown rod... youll be surprised what you can achieve with a stock rig. you wont be CRAWLIN, but youll still get that 2mph adrenaline rush
edit: on second thought buy my 3rd!!!

Lots of great information on here for you. I'd like to add a few things.
Go wheel it like it is first and see what you think you need after that.
Get some recovery gear, a tow strap (NOT a chain), some D rings/hooks, tree strap, perhaps I high lift jack and come-a-long. Gloves are a good thing to buy and throw into the bag also.
After that look at tires, 31's are a good start.
Then armor.
Then lockers.
Also have in mind what your end game is going to be so you can buy/build once, trust me on this one if I'd have had a better plan in mind I'd have saved a few thousand dollars when I did mine.
