What could cause 22re to sputter when cold

I have a 1986 4runner, seem to run ok but when its cold and I start it up and punch the gas it acts like it want to die..After it warms up it doesnt do this...I have a header..Could I have clogged injectors? Any ideas to start looking into it?

Any stored trouble codes in the ECU?

Might be the EGR vavle and modulator mis-plumbed. Normally, the BVSV under the throttle body blocks EGR operation until the engine warms up. If that is messed up, you could be getting EGR when the engine is cold.

Might also check the fuel pressure regulator and make sure there is vacuum present at the regulator. That lowers fuel pressure at idle and can cause the engine to load up until it gets to about 2000 RPM, probably worse when cold.

Start simple...fuel filter? plugs, cap, rotor, wires, air filter, dirty throttle body...
