Upgraded fr. disc brakes kit?

Hi, I have a 1981 4x4 that needs front brakes. I don't have oversized tires or additional weight etc. that would warrant additional stopping power but wondering if going with an upgrade it ( like the one offered by Yota Shop (Upgrade Kit (1979-1985) Kit-1120 ) is still a good idea/investment or should I go with something less "engineered and cheaper" then the $400 price tag. Preferably American made, if that exists.
Thanks for anyone's input.

If your truck stops well and you're happy with it, leave it. Or you can easily upgrade using Toyota parts from a later model and buy them from whoever sells them at a price you like.

Lots of threads on several Toyota forums on what parts fit. The kits are the same thing, just someone did the research for you.

I did a T100 brake upgrade to my 88 and a later model V6 brake upgrade on another and they were both good upgrades but the most noticeable brake upgrade I have done is going to a dual diaphragm booster over the single. Huge difference. IDK what fits a 1st gen truck like yours though. Mine were all 2nd gen. Maybe check the Toyota Bible on Pirate 4x4? Good luck with whatever you decide.

t100 booster rocks... i seem to remember reading that the early trucks have issues with the steering column shaft being too close to the booster? limits the choices

people also upgrade to the 1" bore fj80 master, to match it i used this 1" bore slave on the rear drums with it:
