t case problems
hey guys whatsup? new here and got a lil problem. if im in 4wd then go back out on the streets i have a hell of a time putting it back into 2wd. ill yank as hard as i can and it wont budge. sometimes if i give gas and then pull itll move but usually have to struglle to get the shifter to move back into 2wd. anyone heard of this or had any problems like this? any help is appreciated so thanks in advance. oh ive got an 86 4runner 5speed.:dunno:

That isn't a problem at all, and yes, all of us experience it if we have manual hubs and no ADD. Mine wont go out unless i stop, and move in 1st or reverse. sometimes i have to go back and forth. The reason is that your tires are different sizes, by just a bit, and spin at different speeds. Becasue your transfer case has no differential inside it, you effectively bind up the gears, and cause a difficult shift out of 4wd. Nothing to worry about.

Another suggestion is to shift out of 4WD just before you hit pavement. It's a habit I got into with my old Jeeps. Seemed to make life easier.
