Exclamation a Simple repair turns troublesome: 1990 4runner 22re

I was experiencing some high idle issues in 4runner (1500 cold dropping to 11-1200 warm, along with no temp gauge readings) ...I wanted to check my sensor and thermostat...while replacing the thermostat in my 1990 4runner 22re, one of the bolts snapped(uugggh i hate it when that happens) this led to removinig the intake plenum and tb to allow acces for removal of broken bolts...
I thought this was an excellent time to clean the tb and intake phlenum since it was off the rig... Gently remove tps from tb and all... cleaned w/ tb cleaner... Once all was back together w/ new gaskets torqued just right, and all vac hoses snugged in place, the truck wouldn't fire off... finally it fired off but with a crazy rough, wierd sounding, motor shaking sort of idle... the head was loading up with raw gas (spark plugs black), smoking rich wet gas smell...The phlenum was ice cold like r12 was going through it... checked for air leaks found none...
Could this be occuring due either the cold start injector sw, or the iacv/aav? Is it possible for tb cleaner to screw up the iacv/aav and the cold start injector? Thanks fo the help already given when my wife posted this for me last evening...

Sounds really similar to when I pulled the plenum off of my 3.0 for the first time. I miss installed the vacuum lines, swapping the poer steering idle up for the fuel return hose. It was dumping all the rule that was supposed to go back to the tank straight into the intake and thus the running motor, but the back three intake runners were also so cold they were developing frost on the exterior. Double check all your vacuum connections and other lines on that side, and just for grins, try disconnecting the electrical connector to the cold start injector to make sure it isn't electrically stuck open.

Anything is possible. Lol
Yes the CS Injector could be stuck open. Try unplugging it to we if its a electrical issue with it and not mechanically stuck.

Triple check all vacuum hoses and electrical connections.

Ok I have isolated and corrected my problem... It was not a vac line crossed or any such thing, nor was it a csi, or iacv... it was way moy simple and now I feel like total flunkie.... I had carefully removed the injector ground wire making sure that I knew to replace it... But.... and that is what it was all the time... Looks like after all this time I would have seen it quicker... Thanks guys for your help... Good news is all is working and life expectancy has just increased with the new parts...

Well this is my 1st 4runner, but my 6th yota and my 2nd 3rd gen... Looks like I would have seen this one a bit sooner... but I do look forward to the mods and other such stuff that are in store for it... Soon to follow are the lift(3-4") w/ Lockers, long travel shocks of course, and some engine upgrades to help out with the bigger shoes it will be wearing too... Already in place are all new axles and bearings, no sway bars, trimmed bump stops, and few other mods... btw I really appreciate the help, and already found much help in the other forums too... Great Stuff Guys

Spoke way too soon it seems... all was well... drove it... all not so well... Idle seemd to elevate on its' own... turning 1500-2000rpm when clutch engaged(throttle tap only slighty effected it 1200rpm) adjusted air bypass screw all the way in still idles 1000rpm... noticed throttle linkage could be slightly turned to decrease to normal rpm at idle???? Could this be due to installing a new iacv??? could iacv and tps out of sync? tps was not touched prior...

well it seems the proverbial gremlin has been ousted... After much labor and some busted knuckles the culprit that kept buggering things up was the dash pot... never would have suspected it... just removed the aggravating thing... it seems to be ok... the throttle is not closing too hard too quick... Thanks guys
