should dashpot be depressable?

I guess a dumb quick question, but I couldn't find info anywhere else. With the engine off, should you be able to depress the dashpot? Im suffering from high idle illness and now I want to blame the dashpot. Thanks. If anyone locally needs a tailgate off of my 95 pickup, its free if you pick it up. im in Escondido, Ca.

Thanks

I backed the dashpot off so it is not touching at all and my idle sets at 1000 rpms warmed up with the idle set screw all the way in. Im not sure where to go from here. I've searched every possible vacuum line, all of which are in great shape.

What's the motor/year you're working on?

I would suggest not messing with the throttle body adjustments too much before you eliminate some other possibilities. Not that it isn't easy enough to get it back in adjustment once the problem is found, but no need to make more work for yourself than necessary. IOW, the throttle body is set from factory to operate well with factory adjustments provided every other related function is operating correctly. Sure, at some point one may have to make a minor adjustment here or there during the life of a vehicle, but I've found in all my tinkering it should never have to be so extreme as to disable the dashpot or have the idle set screw all the way as a fix.

The plate inside of my throttle body has a noticeable gap, 1/32, all the way around it. Any chance its worn out and needs replacing.

Should fit tight. Might be throttle stop screw is not set right. Per FSM, fully close throttle plate, turn stop screw into just touch linkage then turn in 1.4 turn more and lock into place. If that is all done right, it could be someone tried to bore out your throttle body (a good thing) but did not put in a larger throttle plate after boring the TB (a bad thing).

this is the plate fully closed (all stopping objects backed off) with a light behind it to highlight the gaps. Obviously it is a replaceable part, any ideas on where to get one from?
