Ring/Pinion Gear Upgrade '88 IFS???
Guys, I have a stock '88 4x4 22RE pickup with 33s. It is definitely time to upgrade on gears.
What would be the recommended gear ratio upgrade. It is used both street and occasional mudding and recently rock crawling.
Thanks a lot for your comments.
Here's a picture of the truck.

4.88 will work for 33s and 35s. That’s what i’m running. Lockers are like “butt holes and opinions” everyone has one. Really depends on your preferences as a driver, that’s a funny statement as how do you have a preference till you drive different lockers on and off road.
I have a Lock-Right for sale. In my experience Lock-Right has the most quarks of lockers i’ve run. But they all have pros and cons. Might sale my ARB but haven’t decided yet.

basically same time, both axles need to have same gear ratio for 4wd. I bought an IFS front axle already regeared and locked from someone doing a solid axle swap. I have locking hubs. I made sure hubs were unlocked pulled old axle out. Tied CVs up and out of the way. Pulled front driveshaft and drove it a couple days like that. Installed used but new to me front axle, verified gear ratio. Boom in business. I sold it when I SAS’d.
For the rear axle. I’ve learned the hard way that there is only a couple of ppl I trust to set up Toyota differentials. I’ll pay shipping to have it done correctly. Ken/Zuk at gearinstalls.com is worth the money since shipping adds up quickly. He has set up 4 difs for me. If your gonna Offroad you’ll want a solid pinion spacer. This dif I had a TG eco seal installed. Zuk currently likes Noteo gears, as quality on parts tends to change in time. At one time it was Yukon, Motive, Richmond..... I went with his recommendation of Nitro. When all is said and done it almost cheaper to buy an assembled unit from Marlin or TG (i’ve Never ran their difs so can’t say longevity but lots of ppl do and reputation is important in this community)
I’m currently running a Grizzly in a 4cyl housing. And Aussie in 4cyl in front. I like the simplicity of auto lockers period. I’ve ran ARB in rear was nice but the more complex a system more chances of problems. Harrop is the latest ppl a raving about but it has quirks to, so i’ve Read and are extra spendy.
