replace rod bearings without removing the engine?
My 95 4runner 3VZE has 210k miles and started knocking so I've been taking the light rail for and lurking on this forum for a year or so until I had the time and money to try to fix it. YotaTech is awesome, btw, and from what I can tell from different posts on here I think it's a rod bearing. I'm going to get her up and running, check the oil for metal and take the oil pan off to verify sometime in the next couple weeks.
Anyway, my question is: if it is a rod bearing, can it be fixed without removing the engine? I don't have a cherry picker or an engine stand so I'd like to jack her up and fix it with the pan off if possible. Has anyone done this before that could offer tips? Thanks! |
a rod bearing yes its pretty easy, however if its bad enough to knock it is probable the the crank is damaged and will need to be machined
