Removing brake hose - rusted on, wrench only rounding bolt
I put new brake calipers on my truck. The old calipers are still hooked up to the brake system. I cannot get the brake hose bolts to budge. They're frozen in with rust pretty badly. All my wrench is doing is rounding the bolts.
I'm thinking about just cutting the hose so I can use a socket or box end wrench to get the bolts off each end, and just installing a new hose. Does that sound like a reasonable way to go about it? |
Try a flare wrench first:

it seems too simple a solution (so I'm willing to hedge I'm going to get schooled...)
careful application of WD-40? careful as opposed to willy-nilly spritzing of every surface of course, I know the WD can make hoses brittle etc etc... but since you're at the "Eff it I'm cutting off the dumb hose" phase it can't hurt right? |
Vice Grips, lots of penetrating lube and patience worked for me when I was replaciing my brake lines.

PB Blaser works wonders!!! Best stuff I have found for rusted/frozen bolts, nuts. Just keep it off plastics.. READ the label.

I've already tried PB blaster, vice grips, and patience. If a 10mm flare wrench doesn't do it, i'm cutting them off.

believe it or not tabasco sauce works great.. put it on and leave over night
