regearing to 5.29?

:banger: :banger: ok 1st off my only source of internet @ the moment is to browse and type ever so slowly on the nintendo wii ,, but i have a 22re 88 4runner and i was thinking about regearing it to 5.29 but i wanted tp know about how much more torque it will give me and climbing power, also wut will it do as far asv gas mileage goes thanks 4 ur help :D

It will increase your torque.

It will increase your PERCEIVED power, but your engine will be unchanged. It will feel more powerful climbing up hills.

The mileage varies wildly from truck to truck. Can't help you there.

I just installed 5.29 last week on my rig. It helped alot! My 4runner have more power and better accleration than 4.10 on 35's. It's amazing. I was able to go long uphill without downshift where I had to do that on 4.10. I don't know about gas mileage yet. Probably improved too. I highly recommend getting it regearing to 5.29 for 35's or 36's.

What tranny and what size tires?

5.29's for 33's on a 5 speed rig and 5.71? on an auto. im running 4.88's on my auto with 33's and its alittle bit more of a slug but not too bad.

no idea about the auto. but i did some research that they run 5.29 on 33's and 5.71 on 35's for auto..dunno. do some search. i did my homework what gears to get for the 35's. remember, auto and manual transmission are different. :)

Automatic transmissions & large tires combined with high altitude & or towing will rob you of a lot of power/torque. If you intend to do a lot of interstate driving with no mountain driving or towing & you have an automatic you have a lot of wiggle room on what gears you can run.

Are 5.29's with 33's at interstate speeds going to keep the rpm's up too high? I was also thinking of doing this setup.

Depends if you have a auto tranny or 5 speed

Mine is a 5 speed

At around 65mph I'm about right at 3k rpm. Not ideal for gas mileage lol.

Actually, it's better than you would think. If you get much below that, your foot will be on the floor to hold speed into the wind or up the slightest incline, and throttle position has FAR more influence on MPG than RPM does...

4.88 with 33's with 5 speed, I'm at 3000 RPM at 70 MPH (indicated)
