Rear Differential Lock System or Not? How to tell?
Hello,
I have recently acquired a new (to me) Toyota truck and am going to be doing some mods. to it. Before I do however, I am going to be making numerous posts looking for some help, information, opinions, advice etc. Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thank you! Vitals: 1996 Tacoma, 4x4, X-cab, 3.4L V6, 5 spd.) While reading the Repair manual procedure for draining and filling the rear differential it gives different capacities for “Rear Differential Lock System” and with out. How do I know which I have? Also, the guy at the auto parts store told me that if I had a front or rear “Limited slip differential” that I would need to put some kind of additive into the gear oil? Any info. on that and how do I tell if I have Limited slip, front or rear? Thank you, |
If you have the rear differential lock, there will be a little button to the left of the steering wheel that says "RR Diff lock" or something like that. I'm pretty sure you don't have a limited slip differntial. I don't think they put those in Tacoma's in the 96-04 (could be wrong).
