Question on IFS Lift...
 

So i'm looking for a relitively inexpensive lift for my 87 4wd ext. cab 22re. A SAS is not in my budget and I keep landing on the ball joint spacer option. They all seem pretty much the same.

I'm probably going to get a diff drop kit (unless there is a reason to not get one) so my CV's don't crap out on me. Question is... Add-a-Leafs or Blocks in the rear? I'm getting kind of a split decision from everyone I ask.

From what I have heard bj spacers eat idler arms like candy.Can't say from personal experiences tho.I have a 3 inch body lift on my truck and it is great.It was like 200 bucks and makes working on my truck a breeze.

I don't think there is a need for the drop kit especially at such a low lift.Definitely blocks in the rear,add a leafs make leaf springs really hard and make a truck ride like poo IMO.

Instead of blocks or AAL's why not get longer shackles?

x2 on longer shackles, you get same ride without the ill effects of a block, and if you go with BJ spacers go with 4crawler, hes got some good stuff, and the diff drop is if you run ur 4wd alot on road, if you use it only in off road conditions i wouldent worry about it cuz your cv's only see wear from tall angles when the hubs locked in

X2 on getting the BJ spacers from 4crawler. I've put them on two rigs and never had an issue. In the rear I'd say go with longer shackles, I added coils to mine but that may not be something you want to dive into.

get em from 4crawler. i got his bj spacers and a superlift 2inch AAL with a 2inch 4crawler bodylift. i think its a really good setup. neverheard of the spacers messing up idler arms, but if you put on bigger tires and wheel it then yea idler arm is the weak link

I have a set of 3.5" blocks and u-bolts if you're interested. Shoot me a PM if you are. I only ran them on the truck for about 2 months before I got replacement springs. It would give you a little rake, but if your springs are like most (saggy) they would probably work well.

Oh, and I would definitely get the diff drop.

Blocks are quite possibly the worst way to do the rear.

They can spit out and be dangerous. Watched it happen. Took out a driveline as the axle slid backward along the spring.

Just get longer shackles. Its cheap, and easy to do, and much safer.

Think I'm leaning to the shackles approach. everyone seems to be a 4crawler fan so.. that will most likely be my next stop. Thanks fellas!

Now that I think about it... Does anyone have any pics of their rig (86-88 pickup, 86-89 Runner) with a ball joint + shackle lift?

Would love to get a good idea of what I can expect.
