Power steering pump replacement questions
The monkeys down at the shop want about $150 in labor to do it. After a quick peek under the hood, it doesn't LOOK that difficult. I'm sure it varies from vehicle to vehicle, but in general (or on a 95 4Runner, specifically), is it that bad? I don't mind getting my hands dirty, and am not a complete moron when it comes to such things, so I think it's worth a shot.

do have a v6 or 4 cyl?you should put that jn ur sig. i am about to replace mine also.

Generic spec cost is $123 for labor at about $85 an hour (at a good mechanic; dealer prices are higher). Another good mechanic quoted 150. Just had mine done. Only reason I had someone else do it was time constraint. This was for 3vz.

$85 an hour seems way high to me. I am thinking a reasonable non-dealer rate should be $40-60.

They're on with three zip ties each (one per mounting hole, and another securing the wire). They're really sturdy actually, can't move them by hand. Not sure what else to try. |

Well, so far I think so, don't ask my GF though.... It LOOKS pretty simple, just a few bolts and hoses.... I'll probably go for it. Or just clean it up and try to fake it through the inspection. If you think zip ties are the best way to secure turn signals and not bolts maybe you had better let a shop replace your power steering pump before you try zip ties on it too.

Since the side markers have been burnt out since I got the truck (almost 2 years now), I figured why bother going to the trouble of all those extra wires and connectors and such. So I just opened up the holes in the markers, pulled the bulb assembly from the blinkers, made sure they were a nice snug fit (yay dremmel for quick, accurate trimming!), and put a bit of silicone around the seam. Took about 20 minutes all told, looks and functions great. |
