New Yot! Now what...
Just picked up a 1989 extended cab with the 22re with a 5 spd. It runs good, drives fine. What would ya'll recommend be my first steps to make sure its in tip-top running order? Plugs, Filters, Oil, etc.?
|
full tune up; wires, plugs, cap, rotor, oil, filter. then maybe a valve adjustment, if you wana be super sure its in tip top shape, you could flush the radiator and clean the injectors.
|
I would recommend a welcome from myself and then use the search function, you will be amazed at what you will find. First thing is first though, post some pics of this new ride please:)

Thanks! I've been wanting a rig like this for a while so I'm excited to finally put some effort into it

i know what ya mean. been doing the same thing to mine.

I'm new to the forum also but not vehicles. You may want to check axle and Tranny/transfer fluids. Also look for grease or oil leaks. Most leaks don't matter much but some definitely need attention. You can also look at the exhaust too. Check for any leaks and see what type of deposits you have to get an idea of how the truck is tuned. Check tire wear patterns that may indicate alignment issues. You may not have any of these problems but it never hurts to know. Look at the brakes also. Check for any play in the drive line.

Very nice I really want a truck just like that for a daily but can't find one for a good price. Anyway very clean!!!
|
Thanks! The goal is to keep it a decent daily driver, but to extend the off-road abilities and performance of the truck a little, bumper, winch, cb, rear locker, newer tires (i like 31's with the truck, any bigger and i'm thinking ill have to re-gear), new header, exhaust, etc.
|
Hell I'm jealous. That's a good looking truck. I just sold the two wheel brother to that truck and could kick myself in the but. I still have a 92 2wd but its a single cab and I can hardly fit in it. You got yourself a good one.

I thought the same thing when I got my 31's and I pulled out of the tire store and the first press on the gas I knew I needed to gear:) it was a slug to say the least but I had been driving on the original 225's. A little black paint on that grill will give you some mojo also. It looks wonderful thanks for feeding the pics to us pic hounds:)

whatever you think you will like really, I used gloss on the wiper arms and the grill some use matte or semi-gloss but since I repainted my mirrors and wipers gloss I just kept the front gloss I think its somewhat of a matte finish from the factory but not positive.
Easy though the Toyota emblem comes off from the back and you can mask and paint it separate, but if you remove the grill get ready to go to the dealer and get the clips to put it back on, they will break they are old and brittle. You can also go the cheap route some members use zip ties instead of replacing the clips. |
if youre gonna do a locker, you might as well re-gear. right?
