Red face Introduce myself and bad noise

Hello, Im a girl who loves to work on cars. Ive rebuilt a VW bug and always repaired my own vehicles. This seems like a great place. I just was given a 85 toyota which needs quite a bit of work. Im going to do it all myself. Its my first toyota and I love it.I want a real 4X4 not a wimp. I figure itll take me a year or so to get it like i want it.
The bad noise it makes almost sounds like valve clatter but in the tranny. And it goes away when i push in the clutch. Im pretty sure its the throw out bearing but anyone have any other ideas before i yank the tranny out? It just started but ive only had the truck for a couple weeks. Of course ill check all the fluid levels before i do anything else. Thanks for any help. Ill post pics before i start the body work.

Could be a release (throwout) bearing, pilot bearing, worn/weak/damaged fingers on the friction plate. Checking the fluid would be my first step however, some people just never change the fluid and it gets old and doesn't lubricate like it used to.

Does it do it while in gear, or only when in neutral?

Makes noise in gear only

Thanks for the replies. It only makes the noise while moving in gear. If i push in the clutch no noise. I checked all the fluids and the transfer case was low so filled that and will see if that helps. Oh by the way. Its a 85 4 runner 5 speed manual. Used mainly to go up mountain trails for hang gliding. Also daily driver. Im new to toyota. Thanks again Bug
