I'm trying to solve a battery or charging issue. 97 T-100

My 97 T100 SR5 has the 3400 V6. I've been told that it's possible for a common problem to be causing the issue. Does anyone have any knowledge of this issue. Is it a common problem? Is there a fix for this issue, other than installing a complete electral shut off switch from the battery to the vehicle? I'm really wanting be able to rely on the truck. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

I think you got a little ahead of yourself. What is the problem you are having?

Dead battery intermittent problem.

I'm having an issue with my battery dying overnight or now and then when I stop somewhere for a short errand. 60 seconds of charge and it starts right up.

The fact it recharges tends to indicate no problem with charging system.

Suggest this step to confirm the battery is not holding charge even though nothing discharging it - disconnect the battery overnight so that nothing is discharging it. Reconnect the next morning … if it has issues starting its likely to be battery related … when cold it could be faulty plate connection within the battery that restores itself temporarily when it gets hot or a charge is applied.

If its a case of something discharging it overnight, it must be a big draw. That's another search process, but eliminate a battery issue first.

Thank you, I will try it. I made some repairs not long ago, ( new upper control arms on both sides ), and I disconnected the battery. It didn't go dead during that time and it was the middle of a Michigan winter so I have my doubts about it being the battery. I will try it anyway just to rule it out. Thank you for your help and response to my post. I guess I'll just have to go from there if it's not the battery.

If its a now and then issue could also be the starter motor contacts. After several years of arcing electrically they wear out. Symptoms are randomly getting just a click when you try to start and no cranking (nothing happens at all but a click noise). If however its a slow of just a few cranks then yes, definitely battery or something draining it.
