IAC valve question

So I took my truck in for - among other reasons - sluggish acceleration from 0 to cruising speed. The tech came back to me with idle air control valve needs maintenance'd, or something to that effect.

If this is the correct diagnosis, is this something I can do myself, with typical garden-variety home tools, and will I be able to notice a difference when I am done?

Pretty routine maintenance. I clean my throttle body/IAC every spring. It's a good idea to run by your dealership and pick up a throttle body gasket and an IAC gasket ($10 - $15 for both) because they are cheap. Some people just reuse them, but I like to replace them. Search IAC cleaning and you'll find info on how to do it. You'll need some carb cleaner, rags, a screwdriver, some RTV silicone sealant and a little elbow grease.

What year truck/4Runner do you have, and what engine ?, theres two diferent styles of idle air control valve for a 22RE depending on the year of the engine, and if its a 3.0 im not sure about the idle air control on it.
