I keep blowing the 7.5 A IGN. fuse
I have a 84 / 83 Toyota truck ( title says 1984 / sitcker on the cab says Oct.1983 ) with the 22R engine. First off my brake & charge light wont turn off. From what I understand it would be a deffective charge light relay that is causing this problem. From what I have read it would be located underneath the pass. kick panel. There is nothing there but the emmission control comp. The wiring diagram shows two yellow wires and a blk. & wht. wire going to it. There is a connector in that area that is not being used that has two green wires and a blk. & wht. wire in it. Could this be the connector for the relay and the previous owner just took it out?
Second, my 7.5 A ignition fuse keeps blowing. When this happens the charge light goes out & the engine will not idle. If I keep the gas pedal pressed a little it will run though. If I replace the fuse it idles fine until the fuse blows again which takes 10 mins. - 2 days. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS |
brake/charge light means bad alternator.. not sure what to tell you about the fuse situation..

Thanks, I'll pull the alternator and have it checked. That ignition fuse is still confusing me though. The only wiring diagram that I can find that shows the ignition is the engine wiring diagram, but there is no mention of the 7.5 A fuse in the diagram. Does anyone know where I could find a complete diagram?

A Factory Service Manual for your year truck (or similar) will have a complete wiring diagram:

I pulled the alternator and had it checked. It is a good alternator. Any other ideas on the charge / brake light situation?

on mine when the relay went out and caused the lights to be on I could just hit the ps dash and they would go out.
