Front and rear diff oil change intervals
Hey guys, I'm new to 4x4s and I just have a question about the front and rear diff oil change intervals.
I rarely use my truck in 4x4 mode. I'd say 95% of time it's in 2 High mode. So having said that, I'm wondering if the front diff oil still needs to be changed with the same frequency as the rear? I'm running an '85 4x4 Pickup, just for reference. |
YES! Positively. Absolutely. No question. Definitely.
Just my subtle suggestion. :D Also, when you do, remove the breather, and make sure it's open all the way. If you go through mud, check the breathers too. A clogged breather can lead to diff fluid leaking out the axle seals, and, at least in the rear, cause the brake shoes to get oil in them, and not work. I do my breathers every spring, fall, and if I hit a decent mud situation. Usually when I'm under there lubing the drive shaft U-joints. Good fortune! Pat☺ |
