Conversion. '83 22r and '87 22re building a disaster!

I have a 1986.5 4Runner. 4X4 of course.
She's my baby, but lately I hate her.

***** The important info******

Truck started with 22re block and head.

Purchased a rebuilt Long block. 22R from an "83" 2WD

It has the square intake and round exhaust.

I still have my other head. Not rebuilt. And its a late 22R head. Square intake and pear exhaust.

***** Here's where you help****
Are the pistons from an 83 22r dome shaped?
Does that matter?
Can I use an 85r head on an 83r block?
Oh and the flywheel is cracked and radiator trash. Would it be a bad idea to go used with the flywheel if it was turned?

HELP ME MAKE THE RIGHT MOVE so this nightmare can end.

First it has been a long day.

The 85 head I think where you run into problems is with the timing chain parts because of the different block sizes.

The timing covers are different I found out the hard way.

I am not sure if the bare head is the same size other then the ports.

Why do you want to not use the head on the engine now if it was rebuilt??

You want to use your fuel injection manifold on the old style block??

** I have the FI manifold to fit that engine if it didn`t go for scrap.

The 83 block should have the domed pistons but the only person who knows is who put them in

used flywheel is ok as long as it is still within spec.

get a new radiator:helo:

It looks to me like the sprocket and gear are the same between the 83 and 85. I don't think that will be a problem.

The head that was on the rebuilt engine would not work with my EFI manifold and I cant afford to do it differently right now.

Is the FI manifold different other than the ports and bolt holes?

Also, if I switch to the 85 head with this new engine, will the domed pistons be a problem? The 85 head is domed at valves.

Will dome shaped pistons on my 83 engine mixed with the 85 R head cause me to have too high of compression? I don't care for more horsepower and I definitely do not want to pay for super unleaded fuel.
