A couple ?'s about brakes & dash screws
Can someone explain to me the unusual brake system on my '93 4Runner. It's pulling to the right while breaking but I feel I need to understand how the system works before I can diagnose it(what's the vent looking device called that's mounted near the rear axle, is the front linked into the rear, etc.). Where can I buy screws that hold the dash face on @? Also, the little nuts/clamps/holders or whatever they're called that the screws screw into. I don't want to go to a wrecking yard & I've asked several of the people parting out their 4Runners on here but it seems nobody has them.

By unusual you may mean abs which Im not familiar with daignosing but I'd say over the years 98% of the time I've had pullling it's been either tire related or caliper related. Have you checked your tire pressure lately?
As far as the screws, all I can say is pick n pull pick n pull. |
Tires are new & all perfectly set as of last week. IDK if it's ABS but the device mounted above the rear axle, that had to be dropped when the lift was installed, is what I'm referring to. I know some people delete it but IDK if that's safe for a DD.

The device you're talking about is a proportioning valve that opens up more braking to the rear wheels when you have a load.

as for the screws i went to neighborhood walmart and picked up a box of machine screws and i painted them black and bam factory ish screws. But i hate having those schwag screws in there and i had to mess around with the screw size to get it fit and blah blah so every time i go to a junk yard i take apart the whole interior of every 4runner i see and take their screws.....

Dealer can order them all inexpensively.
When you don't know what something is, pics are helpful. :wabbit2: |

You know where they go look them up on dealer diagrams.
You won't find them at Walmart. :hillbill: $20 for 12 so your dash is back together? Sounds cheap to me. :wabbit2: |
Agree with wabbit, 20$ is a small price to pay for sanity.
|
Take it to the dealership and show the parts guy where the screws go. He will order them, problem solved. IMHO your brake problem should be top priority. You need to diagnose that concern.
|
$20 isn't a small price when you add it to the other $1,900 I've invested in this 4R since I bought it last month NOT including purchase price. Thanks.

Seriously doubt you are going to find someone who is going to spend an hour tearing apart a dash for in reality $2 in plastic inserts for you. If you want the stuff to put your dash back together, dealership.
Sell that new Tundra ya got. That'll pay for fixing this one :hillbill: :wabbit2: |
