coolant spray

http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...0728-00817.jpg

coolant seems to be spraying everywhere but it is not overheating or leaking and the temp gauge stays in the middle....what could this be from?

rworegon 07-29-2012 06:47 AM

Hole in radiator, failed cap, failed water pump.....

With that much coolant flying around, it should be pretty easy to see where it is coming from.

Clean up engine bay, drive for a while, monitor where leak is coming from...
my guess is water pump but it could be anything like rworegon said

cap85 07-29-2012 08:40 AM

alright, i will check those things. that is the only spot i could see where it was at

rworegon 07-29-2012 08:57 AM

Looking at the spray pattern, the source appears to be on the driver side and it might be right there at the water outlet to idler bearing transition.

pinholes in coolant hoses can appear to not leak until under pressure.

cap85 08-03-2012 07:58 AM

i was going to replace the gasket on the water outlet and check the hoses..maybe just replace all of them?

rworegon 08-03-2012 08:04 AM

There is no gasket on the water outlet....it's a bead of FIPG/RTV in the groove, isn't it?

Replacing the hoses is a good idea.

cap85 08-03-2012 08:13 AM

yeah, i guess it is...i have some black rtv, is that what i would use?

rworegon 08-03-2012 08:17 AM

That would work. See the link up in post 5 for the bead width.

cap85 08-03-2012 09:03 AM

alight. i didn't see if it said i had to remove anything else but would assume no if im just resealing it.

OrRunner 08-03-2012 09:08 AM

no you don't need to remove anything other than those two nuts/bolts. It would make it easier and less of a mess to take the top radiator hose off. Make sure to drain some of your coolant as well.

Make sure to clean your mating surfaces and If you can, don't drive or run the rig for a few hours, I let mine sit over night. Just had to seal the same outlet your looking at.

cap85 08-03-2012 09:11 AM

the hose attached to the water outlet? did you have coolant spraying all over the timing belt cover like the photo?

slow-mo 08-03-2012 08:05 PM

Does the V6 coolant coagulate into a solid? I can see something of a tiny orange-ish/pink-ish piece of whatever that is resting on the fan belt pulley in the center.

cap85 08-03-2012 08:10 PM

thats just what it looks like when it dries..i think anyway. ive drained the coolant and resealed that housing. the coolant looked fine coming out, the seal was pretty much gone so this should fix it. i hope :)

why does my book say to add 2.75 gallons of coolant but it cant even hold 2? am i missing something?

I can only assume the rest of the volume is in the heater core and related hoses.
