Code 52 dead end
 
okay so I have a 1994 Toyota pickup 3.0. I've just rebuilt the motor and have had no problems other that code 52. I know that it's not likely the sensor it self goes bad. And I've had a few opportunities to play with the code now. First was my pigtail wasn't hooked up at all. The truck did not hit second gear at all before the CEL came on. I fixed that with a new pigtail. It hit all its gears but still have me the code so I went onto check the wiring from there. I had one bare spot. I taped it up for a little while and the truck ran fine then 4 or 5 days later it came back. My next attempt is to splice the wires the right way. But my question is this.. I have my timing advanced 10 degrees. Is it possible that can throw the sensor off?

You've misunderstood the code description. It's not an indicator of knocking. It's no signal from the knock sensor. You need to replace the whole wire from one end to the other or it will not have a reliable signal.

Fix your fix again and it'll stop complaining until it shorts out again..

I'm dealing with a code 52 as well. Just finished replacing some ignition parts due to my 94 3.0 leaving me stranded about 10 miles from home. First I replaced fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap & rotor... Seemed good to go, went to work and on the way home all hell broke loose. Started bogging REAL bad, couldn't even keep speed kept slowing down even with downshifting. A $95 tow and used $65 AFM later I was back in business... For about 15 minutes. Now I'm showing the code 52, after a short test drive. I've already done a lot of reading and know about the sub-harness and sensor. What I'm contemplating is welding a nut to the engine hook and running it out there. Crossing fingers after this it runs happy for a while.

Yes, one single piece of wire from the computer to the sensor plug. It's a twisted strand coaxially shielded wire, rhe signal is very low voltage and highly susceptible to noise interference..

Rg58-a/u antenna wire, or similar.

I tend to forget the 3.0 sensor is not readily accessible.. there are threads on relocation just look around.

Can anyone tell me how to check the cel after I shut truck off and turn key on its not there?? Comes on about third gear...1990 4runner v6 3.0 5 speed

When it throws the cel just pull over, don't turn the truck off... Jumper the diag port and check your codes.
