air flow meter
i have a 91 4runner (4banger) and being a newbie i took out the screws from the side of my air flow meter. and you guessed it, pulled the wires off the little circuit board thing. anyway, i came across a afm from a 91 v6 4runner and was wondering if it would work in my 4banger. any answers and opinions would be much appreciated. btw this is a great site.

just posted a new thread on this, search 'VAFM rebuild'
I did exactly the same thing on my 3vze, not sure if it's the same unit but have a feeling it is... I pulled the D shaped plastic cover off the VAFM and cleaned all the contacts and put it back together and resealed the unit with sensor safe silicone; also make sure to clean the plastic nub gizmo inside, this holds the sensor wire; use CRC electronic parts cleaner and now it's back within specs and the 4runner starts/runs fine. Careful is the name of the game when messing around inside this thing. I will post some pictures of what it is supposed to look like but it's fairly easy to figure out; hope this helps! |
I purchased a new VAFM from A1 Cardone and it's a bit spendy ($300 -ish) but before it showed up, I was already back on the road with my 'rebuild' and now I have 2 good VAFM's; if you have the Chilton manual, also test the leads and see if yours is within the specs for resistance in ohms with a multi meter; usually cleaning the plastic nub inside the air chamber will do the trick
