Air coming OUT the intake? Am I crazy?
So I just bought a '95 P/U 22re from a friend, needed a little work, just replaced the exhaust and after that noticed a noise coming from the intake. It happens when I engine brake or if I rev the engine and let off the gas. I checked it out and there is actually air coming out of my exhaust when it does it. When I engine brake or hit the gas hard it sounds kind of like how a semi sounds when it is engine braking that BWAAAAH sound. Am I totally nuts and that is normal. Doesn't seem to me like it would be.
My thoughts are a timing issue? Detonation while intake valves open? I am a noob so maybe that makes me sound crazier.

After doing a little research I found that it looks like it is probably either out of time (timing chain not ignition) or I may have a bad valve. Compression test is the way to know about the valve but can I just pull the plug wire to determine if it is timing vs single valve?
