93 toyota pickup 3VZE distributor timing

Hello im new to this forum. Well I have a 3vze toyota pickup and my friend took off the dizzy to change the cap and rotor. I don't know why. Well anyways I put the crank pully to TDC and the dizzy pointed to #1 while in the engine already. I cranked it over and over and over but it just wont start up. I even took out the spark plugs and cleaned the gas from them. I repeated removing the dizzy and putting in all back and cranking the engine over quite a few tkmes and it still didn't turn on. Some please give me advice!

Remove the distributor. Then rotate the crank 1 full turn(360°). Reinstall the distributor. Start the engine(in amazement).

Counter Clockwise?. could it be the cylinders are flooded?

Also when it would turn on it would run like mega crap. Id put to TDC and take off the cap and the rotor would be wayyyyyy off! I know it sounds dumb. Lol and from there I put it pointing to #1 and it wouldn't turn on.

Oi...

Let me try this again.

1. Set the crank to 0°/TDC
2. Remove the distributor
3. Rotate the crank CLOCKWISE 1 FULL rotation/360°
4. Reinstall the distributor
5. Start the engine

Why?

Because you've made the rookie mistake of installing the distributor with the #1 cylinder at TDC of the exhaust stroke. Instead of TDC of the compression stroke(like you're supposed to).

Now just go do as I say, and quit asking so many questions.

Buttttttt yea don't wanna sound like I tried everything, but I tried doing that before. Let me list everything ive done.

Remove spark plugs and clean off gas.
Set tdc pull dizzy out and put back in with pointer on #1.

Nothing.

Set to tdc with dizz pointing down. Remover dizzy and set to #1.
Nothing.

Set to tdc. Remove dizzy and rotated 1 full time and set dizzy into block making it point to #1
Nothing.

Set to tdc. Set dizzy to point directly left and it runs, but crappy.

Hmmmmmm.. annd *drum roll* ...............I smell gas.
