'88 pickup 4WD conversion
I'm willing to bet this has been asked here before, but would it be worth it to make my truck a 4WD? it's got the 22R, 200k miles been babied most its life. i've read it's not the ideal engine for off-roading, but it's my first truck and i would love to beast mode it.

if your not gonna do too much hardcore stuff i think a 3" lift, rear locker, and winch should be fine. but then again its all on your preference

Do you have any idea how much work is involved??
Buy a 4X4 as a project truck so you have something to drive till it is finished. That way your not rushing trying to get things done. i can understand all to well I had my first truck sitting here for years thinking I am going to get it back on the road . It went for scrap freeing up space. I very seldom think about it anymore.:camp: |
yeah, my buddies are tellin me it'd be cheaper to just buy a 4x4. And an '85 4x4 pickup is definitely a dream truck of mine. That's probably what i'll do, i'm about to go to tech school so, i guess i'll learn myself just how much work would be involved ha.

Its not unpossible. I did it. Its a lot easier to find a truck that doesn't have the snot beat out it when its a 2wd.

Shouldn't be too hard, some even say that a SAS'd 2wd frame is better than a 4x4 IFS frame for uptravel.
