85 pickup with 22re won't start
Hello,
I have a 85 pickup with 22re that won't start. No turning over, nothing when I turn the key. The vehicle sat for awhile, several months, I put a battery in it and it fired right up so I drove around for several minutes. I parked the truck and tried to start it again right away and no luck.
Truck won't start with a boost. I can hear the fuel pump running, have it jumpered at diagnostic just in case.
Any ideas on where to start would be great. Thanks

When I try to start the truck nothing happens at all, the starter doesn't even try to go. I pulled it and can get it to run when I put power to both terminals and the casing is grounded. Also took it to a part shop and had it tested. It tested same as a rebuilt one out of the box.
The starter power connection from the battery, there is always power there. The wire to the stater solenoid is getting no power when the ignition is keyed. Any ideas why that is?
thanks

I haven't had that problem with mine yet, but it sounds like it would be ignition, fuse, or wiring. When you turn the key does the dash turn on (should see a check engine light, and some others). If you are not getting those I would think the ignition is bad and it is acting like you didn't turn the key.
Here is a link to a FSM maybe it will help and it is always nice to have around.

First and foremost check or up date the grounds
These vehicles had poor grounds from new being 20 plus years old they are well past there useful life. The grounds not the vehicle!!!
I use number one welding cable with crimped on lugs it has helped to no end with charging and starting issues.
The fact that it did run leads me to think that is the problem..
Good luck

check your grounds first!
Had these same symptoms that progressed from occasional delay before to start all the way to when I turned the key lights would come on, the plunger would go but no crank.... So, I went with the instructions from the 4crawler link and tore into it. Ended up taking out the starter, checking every connection and ground and eventually taking apart the whole dash. As I continued checking all the engine grounds found a ground hanging loose..........fires up every time now.......... Start simple, go deeper from there.
